Clinical Associate Professor Naomi Mann is Executive Director of the Civil Litigation and Justice Program. She is the founding director of the Access to Justice Clinic (A2J Clinic), an innovative clinic that connects individual client representation to systemic change projects. A2J students represent individual clients who face multiple systemic barriers (e.g., gender, race, class, and disability) in residential, family law and employment matters.
Students actively analyze and address the individual and structural injustices their clients face and learn how individual client representation and/or system change projects can fill important gaps in access to justice gaps. In the second semester, students build their own change projects for access to justice systems and develop their own professional networks. Prior to joining Boston University, Professor Mann worked as a civil rights attorney in the Department of Education`s Office of Civil Rights, where she investigated, mediated, and settled claims involving educational institutions` compliance with federal civil rights laws, including Title IX, Title VI, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. From 2003 to 2010, Professor Mann worked as a staff attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services and Washington Empowered Against Violence, representing low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in family law and injunction matters. Professor Mann writes in the areas of Title IX, sexual assault and constitutional procedures. For more information about this process, see: How to change your preferred first name and email alias.
